He is a striker that, although at times looks awkward and unorthodox, has a strike rate that is the envy of many a premiership striker (nearly 1 goal in 2 games).

Which red blooded United fan can forget the days that Cole and Yorke were headlining the United attack, scoring goals with the abandon that was lacking in last seasons campaign. Out of all the goals he scored, none was more important than the goal he scored to clinch the premiership trophy on the last day of the 1998/1999 season.

So when he turns out in the blue of city against United in the forthcoming season, I for one will not be booing him but showing my appreciation with applause.

…… having said that….. if he scores……

Talking about booing, a few reds have been giving Rio Ferdinand the treatment at recent friendlys, because he is haggling on his salary on his new contract. Now this is a difficult one for me. Some may say that he is throwing mud in the faces of the club that showed loyalty to him, by paying his wages in full when he was banned for 8 months.

That may be so, but some may say that Rio’s loyalty was never in question when he was working his way from West Ham to Leeds to United etc. And let’s face it, if the press reports are correct, he is only asking for another 20 grand a week. It may be the average mans yearly wage but to United it’s a drop in the ocean.

All I know is, looking at United’s back 4, he is by far the best defender and the team would be worse without him.

I'll have to pond this one over a pint

However, it was very dissapointing to hear on the radio that his replacement for Roy Keane is none other than the ex. Leeds United FORWARD Alan Smith.

Now, I may be wide of the mark here, but shouldn't a club of the calibre of United be looking to replace such an immense player as Roy Keane with somebody like Micheal Ballack, a person that has been mooted to be interested in comming to Manchester, in the press. I hope that I am wrong but Alan Smith may be effective against Peterbough United (no offence), but against Chelsea, AC Milan etc. etc?

Just one for our scouse neighbours, but Peter Crouch for Milan Baros ?? What the ?? It hard to question a man that has won the UEFA cup and the E cup in successinve years but can you ever see Crouch winning a golden boot?

Its enough to drive you to drink.

I will ponder this one over a pint.
